Aditya Jain Management Trainee Batch 2018

Describe your experience in one word.

    Enriching

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Before joining the expectation was a lot of reading would be given us and we would have to know all things going on. But after joining, the striking difference was themethodology used in understanding the concepts. All news analysis was done objectively so as to understand different perspectives to one news only.

How has your learning curve been so far?

The learning curve has been quite steep from what we came and where do we stand in 1.5 months only. The peer-to-peer learning helps to understand the concepts in depth, the mentors chip in with their valuable inputs as well.

    Some highlights from your experience.

The highlight has to be the mock sessions where we were made to pitch our products in a simulation of client meeting. This gave us a perspective as to what is the difference between what we understand and what market wants.

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Before joining, I knew I would learn a lot in this organisation. However, more than the classroom trainings I have learnt from the discussions and the newsroom sessions.

How has your learning curve been so far?

Very Steep. I didn’t expect so learn so much so soon.

    Some highlights from your experience.

My first client meeting. I was 3.5 weeks into the system and I got the opportunity to attend a trustee presentation. This by far has been the highlight of my experience

Describe your experience in one word.

    Overwhelming

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Lots of anticipation regarding the on-boarding process but soon felt at home after continuous interaction with the MT batch.

How has your learning curve been so far?

Extremely steep. We are introduced to variety of topics and are constantly tested if we are up to speed with our analytical/presentation skills.

    Some highlights from your experience.

Like-minded batch mates ensured that the induction process was challenging and enjoyable at the same time. Interaction with Leaders and other facilitators from the organization also helped in better understanding of the culture at the workplace. All in all, a pleasant mix of professionalism and fun to enable personal growth.

    Empowering

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

I joined Darashaw as a fresher not knowing what to expect. However post spending over a year and a half, what has struck me the most is the flat organisational structure at Darashaw. We work as an extremely tight knit unit and are always encouraged to voice our reservations.

How has your learning curve been so far?

The learning curve at Darashaw has been steep and enriching in the same measure. I have been given the autonomy to take control of situations and derive learning from my mistakes.

    Some highlights from your experience.

My time at Darashaw has been laced with positive memories and hence it often becomes difficult to pinpoint singular experiences. However bringing in my first client is a memory which I would always cherish.

Describe your experience in one word?

    Fantabulous

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Expectations before joining was that there will be lots to learn and understand about the financial markets and our business. Post joining I like I was doing a MBA in Fixed Income Markets specifically. Post the intensive learning program got a chance to go for client meetings and meet the stalwarts of the industry.

How has your learning curve been so far?

Learning curve has been an up sloping one wherein there are opportunities and challenges to learn from every day and every meeting. I can’t quantify my learning on paper as I believe that it’s a continuous process but Darashaw has helped me sharpen my basics of financial markets.

    Some highlights from your experience.

    A couple of highlights:

    • The opportunity to go back to my alma mater for a talk along with senior associates after just one month of joining was something I will never forget. The whole experience gave us an opportunity to connect with my juniors and discuss in detail about the opportunities at Darashaw.
    • The whole transition from Mumbai to Delhi, being on desk and taking work head on has been quite fulfilling.

    Learning

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

I expected to undergo very concrete and strict training,. However, post joining I have realised that the training structure is very well laid down. Tasks given to us on a daily basis help us put our learnings to test.

How has your learning curve been so far?

The learning curve has escalated well. There is vast difference between what I knew and what I know now. There is still a lot to learn!

    Some highlights from your experience.

My favourite were the news analysis sessions as they were very enriching. Technical Research sessions are also very good as a lot of learning happens by the way of understanding trends and patterns.

    Enlightening

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Before – A routine affair where business leaders come for sessions over days highlighting achievements and putting forward their vision and mission for the company, following it up with some more regarding individual business units. After – The Darashaw wagon went in top gear since day 1! Leaders’ talks and presentations formed an auxiliary part to a fast track programme, the entire focus was on acquainting us with the core functionalities of Darashaw’s work and building the basics well and quick. Hands-on sessions imparting practical learning of concepts and thought provoking case studies complemented by a comprehensive analysis of the macro-economic fundamentals impacting the financial industry were simply amazing!

How has your learning curve been so far?

It’s been a month since I joined Darashaw and two weeks of joining the desk, I must say that I feel more confident as a budding finance professional who aims to make it big in the investment banking space. With the kind of focus that Darashaw puts on individual learning and challenges you to travel that extra mile in your effort is impeccable. Knowledge is the fuel for success here, one has to be on a full-tank to ensure a longer and sustainable run in the business!

    Some highlights from your experience.

Appreciation from the CEO Mr Baman K Mehta for cracking the code to Darashaw’s mission statement, thought provoking and insightful news analysis sessions. However, the chills and laughter during the sessions on technical analysis were surely the best!

Describe your experience in one word.

    Profound.

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

A rigorous training program with sporadic client exposure is what I had previously envisioned. The training program was as anticipated, thorough and intensive. The icing on the cake has been the immense client exposure I have been given and the confidence shown in me from both the reporting head and team leader.

How has your learning curve been so far?

As steep as it can possibly get! The extent of attention/time given by senior advisors and the wide array of topic covered during the training phase is truly commendable.

    Some highlights from your experience.

I’d like to reiterate that the highlight has been the belief my team leader has shown in me to pursue and handle marquee clientele. Also, the openness/approachability within the organisation irrespective of the hierarchy.

    Inspiring

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

As a fresher I expected an environment where I can learn and grow within the organisation. Further I expect to keep on learning, work hard and make the most of the opportunities that I have got so far so that I can grow as a consultant and be an asset to the organisation.

How has your learning curve been so far?

It has been an exponentially growing experience. Although I have still a lot to lean but it has been progressive. I have got opportunities to interact and work with different people both within and outside the organisation who have helped, shared and guided me in my work and this has helped me a lot to grow as a professional.

    Some highlights from your experience.

    There a lot of things that I have learned within this 7 months of my work experience some of the key highlights are as follows;

    • I am able to plan, organise and prioritise my work in a better way
    • I have received a lot of opportunities to meet new clients and to work with different people
    • My analytical skills have developed
    • My communication skills have become better

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

It is said that the biggest source of knowledge is experience, and gaining knowledge out of my experience here was the biggest expectation that I had. Having been with Darashaw so far and given the dynamic nature of business that we are in, there has never been a dearth of challenges and hence learning has truly been a part of life. My experiences at Darashaw have not just enhanced my knowledge but have also helped me develop myself into a more seasoned professional making this journey even more exciting.

How has your learning curve been so far?

Being a significant player in capital markets, staying updated and upgrading oneself is of utmost importance. The learning curve is taken to an entirely different level here.

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Before joining, I expected that work would be hectic and that the training provided would be very thorough. These expectations have been more than matched.

How has your learning curve been so far?

My learning curve has been steep. Every day I get to learn new concepts and also about how Darashaw works.

    Some highlights from your experience.

The induction process was definitely memorable. I think I learnt more in those 10 days than in a year at B – school. The auction for papers during the induction with each team going crazy with their bids was a fun experience. Bonds that were trading at less than INR 100 were bought at 105-106. The looks Maneck and Sagar (the presentation panel) had when we tried selling these to them were hilarious.

Describe your experience in one word.

    Idyllic

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

In the run-up to my first day, I was absorbed within this bubble of apprehension. Belonging to a marketing background , I had little confidence on my leap of faith in to the world of finance . Two Years in to my work, the kind of knowledge that I had been exposed to, I quickly realized that I was far better placed on that front compared to any of my batch-mates from my masters who sat for their respective placement processes. Today, I am an investment advisor to the who’s who of the corporate world who I am proud to call my clientele.

How has your learning curve been so far?

To someone who did not know what ‘yields’ meant to advising 5000+ Crs of client money within two years, I’d say a relatively steep positively shaped normal yield curve 😀

    Some highlights from your experience.

Being given the charge to drive and nurture client acquisitions by the management. Considering I joined as a fresher, to be given the independence and to have had instilled faith among senior leaders about my work, was definitely a huge boost to my confidence.

During the same exercise, being sent to Delhi & Kolkata to meet with prospective clients and once again being given the leeway to drive large meetings and presentations independently including strategizing and building relationships was nothing shy of a quintessential situation for a young professional in his nascent days in the corporate world.

How has your learning curve been so far?

Every day the curve gets steeper with a lot of inputs being given and the whole learning experience is something I would cherish.

    Some highlights from your experience.

    Rohan Shah

Describe your experience in one word.

    Prospective

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Before getting into the corporate life, my expectation of the same was very different with my current experience in Darashaw. My understanding of corporate life was having a monotonous work, having more of desk job in initial years and having a unbalanced socio-work life. However in Darashaw, apart from the consulting work, I have also been learning about markets and getting opportunity to work on-field with client and also not missing on the required desk work to build up the necessary base for future.

How has your learning curve been so far?

As a fresher, I had no background of retirement benefits in India. And since I have joined Consultancy team, we need to have a strong base on the Regulations and compliance aspect. Hence, my learning curve has been very steep as there was a lot to absorb to have the necessary base that was expected from me.

    Some highlights from your experience.

The best part of the experience in Darashaw has been the RB team. Working with them has been a great experience. Apart from that, getting to work with the senior most team members as well as clients in initial years of my career have been enthusing.

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Before joining Darashaw, I expected my job to be a normal run-of-the-mill corporate job but post joining Darashaw, my expectation with respect to the job changed completely, as the company gave utmost importance to training before exposing us to the clients.

How has your learning curve been so far?

My learning curve has been tremendous wherein initially I did not have any clue how the Indian capital markets functioned, while now post constant support for my colleagues and leaders, I am capable of advising the clients about any matter related to capital markets worldwide. In terms of management, I have grown from being mentored by my seniors to now guiding my juniors.

    Some highlights from your experience.

Some of the highlights of my tenure in Darashaw include undertaking a Guest Lecture in my first year of association with the company at my alma mater and interacting with budding aspirants, handling Equities and related investments for clients single handedly in Northern India and undertaking an exhaustive 4 month study on the functioning of Scheduled Commercial Banks in India.

How has your learning curve been so far?

I think it was slow in the beginning because I was adjusting to the paradigm shift from marketing to finance. But as time went by, I saw a confluence between the two and that has made me learn more efficiently in the recent past.

    Expectation before joining vis-a-vis after?

Before joining Darashaw I expected the workplace environment to be very busy and hectic but after joining I realized that it wasn’t so. I expected it to be all work but that myth was broken. It is a good mixture of work and fun. My interactions here are not just limited to internal stakeholders but people from the industry as well which was something I did not expect and the culture here is open and non-hierarchical.

How has your learning curve been so far?

My learning curve has been very steep. From the day I joined, I’ve been fortunate enough to have had people help me out whenever I needed something, especially my mentors who have always spared time for me during times of difficulties. My learning has not been limited to the debt market but I have been exposed to entire the capital market. I have even been taught to use excel properly which was something I lacked when I joined. My learning is continuous and I expect to imbibe as much knowledge as I can from everybody here.

    Some highlights from your experience.

There have been many moments but to share a few I enjoyed the Induction process, the initial days after joining when we had session after session and there was a lot of learning, the time I was allotted clients to work on was also a special experience, the clay making competition was also a moment I will cherish.
